This is an example of the adage: Don't judge a book by its cover.
We can apply two different analogies with this...
One, not all that glitters is gold. (Which is actually another adage. Hehe.)
Two, for something to be special, you have to believe that it's special. (From Kung Fu Panda! Just to connect my fave line. XD)
